Airport joins forces with new charity partner

Edinburgh Airport will join forces with Edinburgh Children's Hospital Charity (ECHC) for the next two years as the airport's next charity partner is announced.

ECHC will link up with the airport for 2024 and 2025 after coming out on top in a staff vote. The collaboration will begin following the conclusion of the two-year partnership between the airport and West Lothian-based charity The Larder which will finish at the end of this year, with almost £170,000 worth of support being provided throughout the collaboration.

More than 60 different charities and organisations put themselves forward to be the airport's next partner when applications opened in October.

Priority was given to charities that support or align with the four pillars of Greater Good, the airport’s sustainability strategy - Zero Carbon; Enhancing Scotland; Scotland’s Best Business; and Trusted Neighbour.

Following a shortlist being drawn up ECHC was selected for the 2024 and 2025 partnership after winning a vote among Edinburgh Airport staff.

The charity supports the life-changing work of Edinburgh’s Royal Hospital for Children and Young People (RHCYP). It helps support seriously ill babies, children, young people and families from the moment they begin their hospital journey.

Gordon Robertson, Edinburgh Airport's Chief Communications and Sustainability Officer, said:

"The work Edinburgh Children's Hospital Charity does to impact the lives of young people and their families when they need it most is truly inspiring, and it's a charity we are proud to partner with for the next two years.

"As part of the partnership the airport will work closely with the charity to shine a light on its efforts and the work it does, while also raising money through our fundraising activities. I know we're all looking forward kicking things off and beginning the collaboration in the new year.

"Staff across the airport were handed a tough choice as so many fantastic charities and organisations put themselves forward for the partnership, and we thank all applicants for their interest in collaborating with us."

Pippa Johnston, Deputy CEO at ECHC, said:

“We are so proud to have been chosen as Edinburgh Airport’s charity partner for the next two years, and are enormously grateful to all of the staff who voted for us. Children come to the hospital from all across Scotland. Just like the airport, we are local to Edinburgh, but we serve a nation.

“We work tirelessly all year round to provide children and their families with the extra support they need when facing a life-changing hospital visit, but we can currently only reach 1 in 10 children who come through the doors. With Edinburgh Airport as our partner, we hope to reach every child who needs support, and make a huge impact on so many young lives. Together, anything is possible. We can’t wait to get started.”

More than £600,000 has been raised for the good causes through Edinburgh Airport Charity Partnerships. In 2018 the partnership with Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance (SCAA) won the ‘Best Partner Relationship’ award at the 2018 Institute of Fundraising Awards.
