Thousands take off for Christmas

Nearly 250,000 people will pass through Edinburgh Airport in the run up to Christmas as they travel to spend time with family and friends over the festive period.

Around 244,000 people will arrive into and depart from Scotland’s busiest airport between Friday 19 December and Christmas Eve.

Popular destinations during the festive period include Tenerife, Geneva and Paris, with people also travelling to hub airports like Amsterdam and Doha.

Gordon Dewar, Chief Executive of Edinburgh Airport said:

“For many, the festive period is about spending time with loved ones, which means travelling for some.

“The days leading up to Christmas are some of our busiest and most important of the year, as thousands of people travel through the airport to be reunited with friends and family, at home or abroad.

“We’re delighted to play our part in helping those festive journeys happen and reconnecting loved ones during this period.

“Whether passengers are heading home for celebrations, discovering somewhere new, or enjoying a peaceful break, we wish everyone a wonderful journey and a very happy festive season.”
